So I’m reading John to Peyton this morning, and I read this:
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” (John 9:1-3)
Stopped me dead in my tracks, granted the tears made it hard to see what came next and choking up made reading aloud quite a challenge. Its weird, cool, strange, neat,…, how when reading passages at different times in your life, they take on a new context, or how your circumstances bring about a greater understanding or different perspective.
The point of all this--the pain, the sadness, the brokenness--is so that the work of God may be shown in Peyton’s life, in my life, in Rayna’s life, and in your life too. The next couple verses articulate a call to action, a charge to be a part of God’s work, so let us all persevere in that.
Peyton was transferred to Dell Children’s hospital today shortly after 11am. She was upgrade from the NICU to the PICU (pediatric intensive care unit). Dr Holt, her cardiologist, said she was too big for the NICU. She almost didn’t fit in the container they use to transport NICU babies from hospital to hospital.
The care strategy meeting will be later this afternoon, though we don’t have a time set.
The last set of labs run at St. David’s this morning cam back looking good. Her white blood cell count is half what it was Monday, and now in a normal range like all the other the lab results.
Peyton also passed her first hearing test this morning.
On a light note, she did her first drama queen pose this morning with her head to the side, her opposite arm pointed away from the body, then bent back at the elbow with her palm facing out while resting on her forehead. Rayna and I got quite a kick out of it.
So Barbara Conley set up a care calendar for us, and here’s the link:
