Day 8 - PM (Time of Surgery)

The time is set. The place is set. It's time for the Rumble in the Operating Room.

Tomorrow at high noon, Peyton will undergo open heart surgery with Dr. Dewan here at the Dell Children's Hospital. The procedure could last anywhere from 2 to 4+ hours depending on the complexity. The operation will start by tying off one vessel that should have closed naturally after birth. Then they'll look for this extra pipe. If we're lucky, it will be on the ouside of her heart and easy to access. If not, they'll have to put her on bypass and go at it through the heart itself.

If we learned anything from the catheterization, it's that community makes a huge difference in the waiting room. If you've got time and want to hang out with us, that'd be awesome! We'll be in the PICU family waiting room (2nd Floor Central, just outside the PICU) shortly after noon.

I'll update more when I know more tomorrow.

  3. Peyton is on prayer chains in every state/country I've ever lived in (which is a lot). The lady who spoke at our church's healing conference recently said that when her radio show went national, there was a significant increase of answered prayers. We're trying to blanket y'all in prayers from coast to coast. Rest up this evening, and we look forward to hearing about God's healing power tomorrow afternoon!

    Dear Karl and Reyna,
We will be in prayer for you and precious Peyton. We have had two children in NICU/PICU. Our daughter had heart problems and our son was born premature at 1 lb 9 oz. I know your heart and arms ache to be home holding Peyton away from all the pokes, sticking, tape, the beeping,tubes.... We know God is with you, and Peyton is in constant comfort by His Spirit. "Jesus said Let the little children come to me." Luke 18:16 He is constantly with Peyton, even though she can not receive your touch, His touch, voice, love... is constantly with her. I had to remind myself of that often, as I longed to comfort my baby. God does amazing things and He has created amazing surgeons. We will continue to pray for your strength, wisdom and Peyton's healing, as you travel this providential path. If there is anything we can do let us know.
    Blessings, Sonya and David Featherston
