Day 9 - Post-surgery

What an awesome day...unimaginably exhausting, but awesome nonetheless.

The medical team took Peyton back a little after noon and started the surgical component by 1pm. Everything went faster than expected, though a large part of that was the support of so many friends and family here as well as the multitude watching, waiting, and praying. Such a blessing to have Barbara, Dustin, Lyndsi, Sarah F., Sarah C., Rachel, Carl, Eddie, Lou Ann, Don, Will, Jamie, David, Marilyn, Julie, Terry, Steve, Amy H., Kathleen, Ben, Mary, Cathy, Kathy, Amy S., Linda, Vicki, Stephanie, Grant, Wayne, Cheryl, & Jewel Lee all sitting with us. Then to see all the posts on the blog and the facebook notes...well, words of emmense gratitude escape me.

Closing up the vessel that should have closed on its own took about half an hour. No problems there. Next was this monstrosity of a fistula (the extra pipe short-circuiting the blood flow). The surgeon said the fistula looked like a finger resting on the outside of the heart, running straight down the divide between the right and left sides of the heart. This presentaton gave him easy access to lasso the fistual and tie it off. So, there was no need to put the heart on bypass--a process that increases risk, surgery time, and recovery time.

Overall, no bumps in the road, and now we focus on recovery! Praise God!

    Spiritual Blessings in Christ

3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace 8that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

11In him we were also chosen,[e] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory.

    Thanksgiving and Prayer

15For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

  34. Karl & Rayna ~

I was so glad to see that Peyton did beautifully during surgery. Everyone at my works comes by my office to ask if there is an update on Peyton. I'm so glad to share a happy one this morning. I hope that she recovers quickly and you guys can go home and enjoy her without all the tubes and machines and medical staff around. I know that Kaitlyn is ready to meet her and teach her the crazy things that she is learning. (I have no idea where she is learning these things!!) Just know that we here in Denton have thought about you guys through this and wish we could have been there to help out.

  35. PRAISE THE LORD ON HIGH!!!! He has taken Peyton and has safely mended her little body..How awesome is He? Most times I can't fathom His power and this is one of them. It amazes me and breaks me at the same time to know how loving, compassionate and gentle He is and that it belongs to all of us that believe. How the Lord is glorified and lifted on high through this ordeal escapes words. I cannot imagine people following this event and not believing in Him and not seeing the miracle, which is Peyton! Someone said to me Easter Sunday, "If there is a God, let's see some miracles, lets see something change, let's see Him do "His stuff", because nothing changes unless I change it, I'm the one to control my life and destiny". After picking my jaw off the floor and while I was counting to 10 so the Lord could speak through me, I told the person that just his ability to wake up that morning was a miracle and when he looked outside was a miracle and because he doesn't need to suffer the condemnation he deserves because of the Lord that was a miracle. I wanted to say that because he had a wife that actually loved him was a miracle, but I didn't because I wanted the Lord to do "His stuff"....lol (thought you might need a giggle!). Anyway, I told him if he wanted a more tangible sign, some concrete evidence that God lives and that He's in control and that he is the Almighty, he needed to log onto your blog....I don't think anything could solidify the Lords existence more than to see your story. I love the Lord, yes, but this has impacted me more than I can say, especially after loosing my dear friend Sharon such a short while ago. Even though 1 part of my heart is still aching with the loss, the other is rejoicing in His love.

Karl, I was going to tell you that when this is over you should seriously consider career in writing, but it will never be over, the worrying, the heartache, the feelings of protection, etc. because you are now a new dad and all of that comes with the territory.....and if Peyton Ann is anything like her mom, you're in few quite a few sleepless nights! Sorry Rayna, but you know it's true....ha, ha! Seriously, your words and the feelings behind them have touched my heart, made me re-examine a few things, and helped me to see the Lord's ever present existence in my life....for that I am grateful!

Blessed be this day and all the days to come. Please know that you are loved and being prayed for with every fiber of my being.

    Love you guys!
    Chris P.

  41. Having a "miracle" baby is such a powerful blessing. Everytime you look at Peyton from now on you will be reminded of God's amazing love and grace and the warmth of knowing how many people all over the world were praying for you and her. That is certainly how we feel with Addison. These children are living testimonies of God's love. Praying for her continued recovery and healing, and for your family as you move forward from this struggle.
